Materials
Birdhouses - old or new, old ones are cheaper!
Acrylic paint - you can get cheapy ones at the craft store for less than $1 a piece.
Sponge brushes
Eye hooks
Rope
Hooks to hang them on
How we did it
1. We painted each house with a different color scheme. I picked each scheme so that Steel could make a different color with the 2 that I picked. (I originally was thinking a neutral palette but Steel's plan used red and blue. These are his favorite colors as that it what we ended up painting his room as well.)
The 3 color schemes were:
Blue and Yellow (makes Green)
Yellow and Red (makes Orange)
Red and Blue (makes Purple)
2. We let it dry overnight.
3. We inserted eye screws into the 2 birdhouses that did not have means of hanging. We used a hammer to get the eye screws started before we screwed them in by hand.
4. We then attached rope through the eye screws and knotted it.
5. We used hooks in the crazy tree in our backyard and hung them all.
I am so pleased with the way they turned out. Steel did a great job at picking the colors, it turned out much better than using neutral hues!
