Reducing your grocery and gasoline bills with Giant Eagle

I have been using my Foodperks! and Fuelperks! for quite some time and I am really saving quite a bit!

How much am a truly saving?

Fuelperks! - For every $50 you spend on groceries, you earn $0.10 off per gallon of gas, to a maximum of 30 gallons.  (Giant Eagle periodically runs specials to earn $0.20 off when you purchase gift cards.  They typically run these specials near back-to-school and Christmas.  For this explaination, I am basing it on the $0.10 off per gallon of gas.)  Get Go does not allow switching out vehicles during the same fill up.  I am not sure about their policy on using gas cans but everyone uses them at our Get Go!  To maximize your savings you must purchase the full 30 gallons.  This is not a problem for us.  We have several gas cans and cars to put the gas in!

The savings! - $50 in groceries yields you $0.10 off of 30 gallons of gas, or $3.  That is 6% of your fuel bill from the money spent on your grocery bill.

Foodperks! - For every 10 gallons of gas purchased, you earn 1% of your grocery bill, to a maximum of $300.  This works great for us because we purchase a lot of gas.  I have a long commute to work and we typically reach the 20% mark every 2 - 3 months.  To maximize your savings you need to plan a $300 grocery shopping trip.  This takes a bit of planning and strategy so that you are not buying food, just to save.  Unless, of course, you are planning on stocking up.

The savings! - (I am basing this on a gas price of $3.50 per gallon.)  I need to spend $700 in fuel to yield my 20% off my food bill.  My savings on a $300 grocery shopping trip will be $60.  That is 8.57% savings off you food bill from the money spent on your fuel bill.

That is a combined savings of over 14%!  Combine these savings with coupons (Giant Eagle doubles coupons up to $0.99), weekly specials and eOffers and the savings just keep racking up!
