Fettuccine Carbonara

Carbonara is actually Italian bacon.  We (my family) have always used capicola for that extra kick!  

Ingredients:

1 lb. fettucine, cooked and strained

6 large eggs

1/2 cup milk

2 cups grated parmesan cheese

3/4 lb. of capicola, hot, sliced thin

1 tsp. black pepper

To Prepare:

1.  Start water for boiling noodles.

2.  Fill the serving dish with hot water to get it nice and warm.  A warm dish will aid in cooking the eggs when you add egg mixture and noodles to the serving dish.

3.  Dice the capicola.  Put into bowl and microwave for 2 minutes at a time and stir in between.  I used to fry it on the stove and found that the microwave was much easier and faster, with no messy clean up!  It usually takes about 8-10 minutes total, you want the ends to start to curl and look as if you fried it.  

4.  Prepare egg mixture.  Add milk, eggs, cheese and pepper to mixing bowl and mix thoroughly.

5.  At some point, it will be time to add your fettucine to the boiling water...

6.  Once noodles are done, add noodles, egg mixture and capicola to 'emptied' serving dish.

7.  Mix, let stand for 5' and serve.

Leaf Candle Holder

I got the idea from 5 Orange Potatoes.  I think there is something wrong with the link.  There is a picture but no instructions.  It's a cute idea.  Steel was collecting leaves at Gramma and Pap's house and we were going to use them to create this.  However, I did not press them in time before they started curling.  I stole some more leaves from the neighbors yard.

Materials
Glass Jar (I reused a pickle jar)
Leaves
Mod Podge - High Lustre will work the best

The How To
1.  Collect some freshly fallen leaves.
2.  Press and Dry leaves.
I am lucky enough to have a flower press that was purchased for me by my mom.  You can just press them inside a book or a homemade press.  I left them in the press for 2 weeks, mostly because I was busy with a certain birthday party...but I think a week should be sufficient.  You could always keep checking on them until they are ready...

2.  Make sure your jar is free of the old label.
3.  Begin gluing leaves to jar, overlapping with mod podge.
4.  Using the mod podge, paint a clear cover over the entire jar to create a seal over all the leaves.

5.  Let dry.

6.  Insert tea light, real or battery powered.  I used a votive that was in a votive holder since I had one to use.

7.  Display.  Can even be used to line walkway.

Football Croissant Sandwiches

Ingredients:

1 1/2 chicken breasts, shredded (see Super Easy Shredded Chicken)

1 1/2 cups shredded swiss cheese

1/2 cup bacon bits

1 pkt. dry ranch seasoning

1 cup mayo

2 pkgs. crescent rolls

To Prepare:

1.  Add chicken, cheese, bacon, ranch seasoning and mayo to bowl and mix thoroughly.

2.  Unroll crescent rolls and separate.  Add spoonful of mixture to center of triangle.

3.  Roll the ends of the crescent roll around the mixture.

4.  Bake according to crescent rolls instructions.  I needed an additional 2 minutes to brown the edges.  

Eat them up Yum!

No Slip Hand Towels

The only places that I have to hang hand towels in the kitchen is on the oven and dishwasher handles.  Needless to say they always end up on the floor.  I saw this great idea from Traci at Stolen Moments.  She actually takes towels and fancies them up.  I decided to take my Halloween decor towels and add ribbon ties to the sides.

I took 2 hand towels...

Pinned where I wanted to sew the ribbons on, so that everything would line up accordingly...

I hand tacked the ribbons onto the towels.  I hand sewed them on because I didn't feel like busting out the sewing machine and the Steelers were on...

I hung them up and tied them.  No slip!

I also used my Dritz Fray Check to keep fraying at bay...=)

Carnival Party Thank You Notes

I used my Corel Photo Album 7 to create picture collages of the kids to use as Thank You notes.

I wrote a personal message on the back of the picture, had Steel sign his name and sent them off.

Carnival Party Balloon Anchors

I lined the drive with balloons.  I cut the ends of wire hangers (okay, neighbor did this for me as we were running out of time setting up...) and tied the balloon strings to the hanger.  I pushed them into the ground along the edge of the drive.  Worked great!
